Slaughter Across The Water
Slaughter Across The Water
Read the blog wp.me/po1la-dU The Short: Profiles the annual tug of war between the city of Annapolis and "breakaway micro nation" Maritime Republic of Eastport. The Long: In 1997 the Spa Creek bridge in Annapolis, MD was shut down for repairs. This was the main connection to the city for the neighborhood of Eastport. Residents worried that this would negatively effect their local economy and businesses. In response, a group formed to found the 'Maritime Republic of Eastport'. They 'officially' seceded from Annapolis and the US and can be found in the book of micro nations. In 1998 the MRE held a tug of war across Spa Creek to pit Eastport versus Annapolis. This is purportedly the largest tug of war across a body of water in the world, although the Guinness Book of World Records doesn't recognize tug of wars due to their danger. Slaughter Across The Water picks up during the 12th annual tug of war. Founding members, residents, and visitors tell the people's history of the MRE and the tug. Embedded coverage of 'patriotic' events include the annual Declaration of War march on City Hall, Black Ops, and the tug of war itself. Slaughter Across The Water tells the story of the people of the MRE who are 'still revolting' 12 years after their founding. Filmed with Canon HV20/30. Edited in FCP 7. Graded in Color.

Ferries to Dubrovnik: www.ferriescroatia.com Dubrovnik is a Croatian city on the Adriatic Sea coast in the extreme south of Dalmatia, positioned at the terminal end of the Isthmus of Dubrovnik. It is one of the most prominent tourist destinations on the Adriatic, a seaport and the center of Dubrovnik-Neretva county. Its population was 43770 in 2001,[1] down from 49728 in 1991.[2] In 1979, the city of Dubrovnik joined the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites. The prosperity of the city of Dubrovnik has always been based on maritime trade. In the Middle Ages, as the Republic of Ragusa, also known as the fifth Maritime Republic (together with Amalfi, Pisa, Genoa and Venice), it became the only eastern Adriatic city-state to rival Venice. Supported by its wealth and skilled diplomacy, the city achieved a remarkable level of development, particularly during the 15th and 16th centuries. Although demilitarised in the 1970s with the intent of forever protecting it from war devastation, in 1991, after the breakup of Yugoslavia, it was besieged by Serb-Montenegrin forces for 7 months and heavily damaged by shelling. Sorrento, Italy
Sorrento, Italy
The Amalfi Coast on the southern part of the Sorrento Peninsula is one of the prettiest areas in Italy. The Amalfi Drive, hugging the coast of the Campania region along the Gulf of Salerno, has been called Italy's most romantic road. This narrow, winding cliff-hanging byway, in places carved right out of the side of the mountain, is a challenge to navigate. However, those traversing the Amalfi Drive are rewarded with spectacular views of small coves and of boats bobbing in the azure sea far below. Amalfi and Positano are the two most popular spots along the Amalfi Coast. Amalfi, 61 km (38 miles) east of Sorrento and with a population of only 5500, is the largest town on this coast. Dramatically situated at the mouth of a ravine under towering 1315-meter (4312-foot) Mt. Cerreto, the burg is sandwiched between tall cliffs and a rocky coastline broken occasionally by coves with sandy beaches. Amalfi's rich history is not evident from what tourists see today. Incredibly, this small town was once the capital of the seafaring Republic of Amalfi, one of the great maritime powers. From the ninth to the eleventh century Amalfi rivaled Venice and Genoa for influence in the Mediterranean. The first mention of Amalfi dates from the sixth century, and a circular maritime trade with the East developed soon thereafter. Grain, slaves, salt and timber were traded to Egypt and Syria for gold dinars. These coins were then paid to the Byzantines for silk which was in turn sold back in Europe ...

Venice HD view from the Voyager if the Seas
Venice, especially during the Middle-Ages, Renaissance and Baroque, was a major centre of art and developed a unique style known as the Venetian School. In the Middle-Ages and the Renaissance, Venice, along with Florence and Rome, became one of the most important centres of art in Europe, and numerous wealthy Venetians became patrons of the arts. Venice at the time was a rich and prosperous Maritime Republic, which controlled a vast sea and trade empire.[50] By the end of the 15th century, Venice had become the European capital of printing, being one of the first cities in Italy (after Subiaco and Rome) to have a printing press after those established in Germany, having 417 printers by 1500. The most important printing office was the Aldine Press of Aldus Manutius, which in 1499 printed the Hypnerotomachia Poliphili, considered the most beautiful book of Renaissance, and established modern punctuation, the page format and italic type, and the first printed work of Aristotle. In the sixteenth century Venetian painting was developed through influences from the Paduan School and Antonello da Messina, who introduced the oil painting technique of the van Eyck brothers. It is signified by a warm colour scale and a picturesque use of colour. Early masters where the Bellini and Vivarini families, followed by Giorgione and Titian, then Tintoretto and Veronese. In the early 16th century, also, there was rivalry between whether Venetian painting should use disegno or colorito.[51 ...
